Leah Remini on New Reality Series: 'I Hope it Inspires People to Be Who They Are'

Leah Remini and her family are preparing to go under the spotlight in a new way for TLC's brand-new reality show. The actress recently gave an interview in which she discussed the show and the effect it is already having on her family, especially daughter Sofia, 9.

"She was like, 'Where are the cameras? When do they show up? And do I get hair and makeup?' She's ready! They're excited about it," Remini told People magazine of her daughter's enthusiasm.

Remini, Sofia, husband Angelo and other members of the family will appear in the unnamed reality show, which is likely to bring big viewership given Remini's dramatic exit from the Church of Scientology. For the longest time Remini remained silent about her exit but finally broke the silence and explained that she, and her family, left to remain true to themselves.

"My family is not so different from the rest of America," Remini said. "I think people love to see that, oh, just because she's on television and in Hollywood, I can still relate to her. I don't want to be doing a show that's negative, that's filled with drama. Things do come up in our lives. We are going through a transition, and we are leaning on each other."

The family has been through quite an ordeal since leaving the church where they were life-long members. Remini said that they have been brought closer together and have learned who their true friends are, rather than those who just were friendly because of church association. One of those friends is Kirstie Alley, who has been quite vocal in her disappointment towards Remini's decision to leave the church. But Remini hopes to inspire others to be honest with themselves and with their families and friends.

"I hope people see growth from us, and I hope it inspires them to be who they are to each other and strengthen their relationships. I'm hoping that's what people are going to take away from it," she explained. "And if they laugh, even better."
