Leaked images of 'Half-Life 3' suggest game still to happen, status under development?

Fans of the first-person shooter video game "Half-Life" are still waiting and hoping for updates regarding its third installment. Their biggest question for its developer Valve is whether they will release "Half-Life 3" or will it remain as a rumor. While some are losing hope, others are holding on especially with the recent reports that the game is still going to happen.

According to International Business Times, new rumors have surfaced saying that the video game "Half-Life 3" is currently under development. It rooted from a leaked screenshot of a robot from "Half-Life 2" running on Source 2 Engine that was revealed in web-based bulletin and forum site 4Chan.

A report from Master Herald says that the creator of "Counter-Strike" Minh "Gooseman" Le was the one who uploaded the screenshot during a discussion in the online public forum. The photo was said to have been divided into 2,500 individual images. When community members of the 4Chan pieced the divided images together, it showed an image of the robot named "Dog," a prominent recurring character in the part two and spin-offs of the video game.

The source mentioned that Le was also quoted as saying that gamers should be getting further details from Valve Corporation by the end of the year. Currently, the original leaked image no longer exists as it has been deleted in the thread for unknown reasons. But even before it vanished, it was already noted by 4Chan members that the texture of the image appeared to be from a Source 2 Engine, which is really rich in graphics and is the same thing used on ported version of "Dota 2", renamed as "Dota 2 Reborn". The image is also said to have been created sometime between March and April last year.

But amidst the rumors, there is still no official announcement regarding the game's development. "Half-Life" series writer Marc Laidlaw did confirm before that there will be a part three of the story but he said that the leaked image by the 4Chan account claiming to be Le is nothing.

But why are fans still hoping for its release? According to Movie Pilot, "Valve has a reputation for devoting themselves to their fans." Some fans just refuse to believe that "Half-Life 3" will not happen. So until then, they will just have to keep on being posted.
