LeBron James Latest News: 'The King' Becomes the Youngest to Score 25,000 points
What better way to reach 25,000 points in a basketball career than receiving an alley-oop pass and finish it strong?
LeBron James reached that milestone in the Cleveland Cavaliers win over the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center. So significant was the achievement that even Sixers fans cheered the man they call "The King" with his latest record-breaking performance.
By the way, the Cavaliers superstar became the youngest player to reach that total at 30 years and 307 days.
The previous record was previously owned by another future Hall-of-Famer, Kobe Bryant, who reached the milestone at the age of 31 years and 105 days. Interestingly, Yahoo! Sports' Eric Freeman reported that Bryant actually set that record during a game against Cleveland with James in 2010.
The Cavs got over a slow start to defeat the 76ers, 107-100, behind James' double-double performance of 22 points and 11 assists; Mo Williams contributed 21 points on a highly efficient 8 out of 10 field goal performance, while the fit-again Kevin Love added 15. Cleveland upped its record to 3-1 early in the season, while the 76ers remain winless at 0-3.
The Sixers to their credit actually threatened to steal the game when the 21-point Cavs lead was almost wiped out less than four minutes remaining, but they simply ran out of time to pull off an upset against the reigning Eastern Conference champs.
The four-time MVP owns a 13-year NBA career that is beyond compare, achieving many records and feats that no other basketball player may ever surpass at this same age. He is an 11-time All-Star, former Rookie of the Year, Olympic gold medalist, and the Cavs' all-time leading scorer.
Aside from the fact that he can reliably guard and play all five positions, the 6-8 small/power forward is also considered by a lot of pundits to be the best clutch playoff performer in history of basketball, something that Michael Jordan and even Kobe Bryant might even recognize once "The King" hangs it up in the future.
