Various websites claim that Valve's "Left 4 Dead" franchise will have a third installment soon. Just like the first two games, "Left 4 Dead 3" will apparently have 4 playable characters and more than 5 campaigns.

A report by Christian Today states that "Left 4 Dead 3" may be coming as soon as 2017. The game is reportedly in development and will have the same set-up as the first two games. This means that there will be four playable characters and six campaigns.
In the first "Left 4 Dead" game in 2008, there were four playable characters named Francis, Bill, Louis and Zoey. In "Left 4 Dead 2", there were also four new characters named Coach, Rochelle, Nick and Ellis. The sequel was released just a year after the original one in 2009.

The first two "Left 4 Dead" games were developed by Valve in collaboration with Turtle Rock Studios. However, the latter has left Valve and there have been rumors that "Left 4 Dead 3" will be left in the backburner for good.
One of the reasons why the "Left 4 Dead 3" rumors refuse to die down is because there have been several alleged "leaks" of its existence. Digital Spy wrote that references to the third installment of the franchise were found by eagle-eyed fans on a tool found on the HTC Vive headset.
Furthermore, Valve's Tristan Reidford also revealed what looks like to be a "Left 4 Dead 3" folder on his computer while he was doing a tutorial for the Destinations platform on his computer.

There have been pretty specific reports about "Left 4 Dead 3" floating in the internet. According to Ecumenical News, there will be four playable characters in the new game. Their names are reported to be Katherine, Keenan, Irvin and Garret Jr.
"Left 4 Dead 3" will be set during a zombie apocalypse where the infection is beginning to spread. There will be six campaigns including: Impasse, Crashland, Early Destination, Inquisitor Land, No Mercy and Cliff Hanger.
Valve has not released an official statement regarding "Left 4 Dead 3" so the rumors will remain as they are until news of the game will be announced.
