'Left 4 Dead' Developer Releasing New VR Game 'The Well'

The creator of "Left 4 Dead" confirms the release of a new game. Turtle Rock Studios announces the details to "The Well," which is a turn-based roleplaying video gaming experience for the virtual reality (VR) platform.

"The Well" will be exclusively released via the Samsung Gear VR this October. Turtle Rock Studios described the game as a "storybook art style" with a "dark and dreamlike" feel.

The company also unleashed a teaser to "The Well" to give gamers an idea of what it looks like and how the gameplay works. Basically, players will be summoned to beat a demon causing chaos and create a harmonious world among barbaric tribes and civilized villagers in Tholl.

Players will have to recruit companies to do what the Oracle tasked. Aside from beating enemies or monsters, players will also have to solve puzzles and mysteries, or power up their gears, or amass loots.

Turtle Rock's Steve Goldstein said this project is the company's most ambitions VR creation yet.

"It's specifically crafted for the Gear VR platform," Goldstein stated in the press release. "It's not just a fun game, it's beautiful. Gear VR is a medium that allows us to push the creative envelope and bring to life games we never thought possible."

"The Well" officially hits stores on Wednesday, Oct. 11 for $10 for the Samsung Gear VR. The said device, which was released last November, works well with mobile gadgets like the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6 to S8, S6 Edge, and S7 Edge. The headset costs $99.99 and about five million units have been sold since its release.

It's not known if Turtle Rock Studios will also eventually release "The Well" for the Playstation VR, HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. Players who want to see the new VR game in action could check out the demonstration at Oculus Connect event in San Jose, California from Oct. 11 to 12.
