'Legend of Zelda' update: Linkle may appear in future titles, says producer
Linkle, who has been called a female Link, is definitely in the minds of series producer and Koei Tecmo when they sit down, think, and plan about the future of "Zelda" games.
"I had a chance to give feedback on Linkle during development, but the satisfying action of using a crossbow, which we developed for the spin-off title Link's Crossbow Training, was implemented this time completely by Koei Tecmo," Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma told IGN. "It may feel a little different from other titles in the franchise, but she doesn't feel out of place at all in the world of the Zelda games. I'm sure we will keep her in mind when thinking about future titles."
In the same interview, Aonuma also shares where Linkle's character originated from, how they formed her backstory, and how she eventually made it into "Hyrule Warriors Legends."

Linkle is described as a cheerful, kind, albeit naive young woman who takes cares of Cuccos in the small village of Hyrule. She has always wanted to be hero and upon hearing about monsters attacking the castle, sets out at once to help the kingdom. According to Aonuma, the team behind "Hyrule Warriors Legends" believes Linkle would help make the game more diverse plus her background is something new and unique in the franchise.
Linkle first appeared in an art booklet that was part of a collector's edition released in Japan. The positive reaction from fans, especially those from outside Japan, made the "Zelda" creators decide to include Linkle in the game.
Linkle is making her debut in the "Zelda" universe as a playable character in the upcoming game "Hyrule Warriors Legends." The game is available on the Nintendo Wii U and is scheduled to release on the Nintendo 3DS on Jan. 26, 2016 in Japan and on March 25 in North America.
