'Legends of Tomorrow' Episode 13 Recap, Finale Spoilers: Who Is Cassandra Savage's Mom?
The latest episode of "Legends of Tomorrow," "Leviathan," introduced a new character, Vandal Savage's (guest star Casper Crump) daughter, Cassandra (Jessica Sipos), and had fans wondering who her mother could be. In the latest efforts to defeat Vandal, The Legends finally caught hold of something concrete that gives them a good chance at defeating the villain. Being immortal, only very few weapons could stand to kill Vandal Savage, and they discovered one more besides Vandal's own knife: Kendra Saunder's aka Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) bracelet from her first life. When the group led by Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) went out on a scouting mission to perhaps kidnap Vandal, they found it being worn by Cassandra, who they only just find out, is Vandal's daughter.
The discovery of the bracelet, as well as the identity of its wearer in 2166, breaks open speculations on the identity of Cassandra's mother, who may have passed it down to Cassandra as an heirloom. Cassandra's mother is an unnamed woman from the 22nd century, who, according to the former, was killed when Per Degaton unleashed the Armageddon virus. Cassandra knows nothing of Vandal's role in the Armageddon virus outbreak, so that she believes that only Vandal's rule could bring the much-needed peace in the world.
It goes without saying that Cassandra is unaware of Vandal's evil, despite her father's claim of having taught her "the ways of deceit." While Kendra's bracelet, which the team was able to steal from Cassandra, represents a weapon which the team could use to potentially take care of the Vandal problem, having Cassandra over to their side, after divesting her of her mistaken loyalties, may be a much bigger weapon against Vandal. In the effort to win her over to their side, Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) had shown her a video file that revealed Vandal's key role in the death of her mother from the Armageddon virus.
The whole point for the team being in that period of time was to bring down Vandal before he ordered the killing of Rip's family. And despite some small disasters trying to achieve this, the team had reached the point where they could have triumphed. Ray Palmer aka The ATOM (Brandon Routh) was even able to defeat Vandal's weapon of destruction, the giant robot, Leviathan.
But when it came down to throwing the killing blow, Kendra had balked when she unmasked an attacking soldier of Vandal's, who turned out to be Carter (Falk Hentschel). At the point of near-defeat, Vandal sowed a seed of doubt in Kendra's mind by telling her that he had brainwashed Carter before carter had time to remember his past lives in that timeline.
This meant that Carter's true self was locked away such that, if Kendra killed him, she would never get Carter back. So despite Rip's demand for her to finish Vandal, Kendra's hand was stayed by her fear of putting Carter in danger. And so, both Carter and Vandal were taken onto the Waverider, which had been so badly damaged during the battle between Leviathan and Ray. In the meantime, Cassandra proves her worth by revealing to the resistance the secrets of her father's forces.
With three more episodes to go until the series finale, the team tries to figure out in the next episode, "River of Time," what to do with Vandal, seeing that Kendra cannot decide whether to kill him after she is told that Vandal can reunite her with Carter. Kendra being nowhere near a decision, Rip finally decides what to do. He wants to give Vandal over to the Time Masters, something that makes Snart and Mick Rory aka Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) consider going back to their old life. For the time being, Savage jeers at Ray for his role in Kendra's life. This episode, the 14th, will air May 5.
In episode 15, "Destiny," airing May 12, Rip and Rory become greatly disturbed in close proximity to the Time Masters, but not for the same reason. While Sara lance aka White Canary (Caity Lotz) takes over the Waverider, Kendra and Carter are reunited. Snart, in the meantime, thinks he might play at being hero.
The season finale, episode 16, "Legendary," will find the team back in Central City, a few months after they left it. Rip decides the time had come for each of them to pick their own destiny and decide whether they would sacrifice all to save the world. Sara also receives bad news about her sister when her father drops by. "Legends of Tomorrow" season one finale airs May 19.
