'Legends of Tomorrow' Season 3 Cast News: Victor Garber's Firestorm Out, Matt Ryan's Constantine In
Fans who have long been clamoring for "Constantine" to return to the small screen can look forward to some consolation. Matt Ryan will be reprising the titular character in the current season of "Legends of Tomorrow."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan's John Constantine will be appearing in a two-episode arc in season 3. Fans will see him in episodes 9 and 10, which are scheduled to air in 2018.
"Having Matt Ryan reprise his iconic — dare we say legendary — role of John Constantine on 'Legends' is something that [executive producer] Marc [Guggenheim] and I have been working toward since season one, and now the stars have finally aligned," executive producer Phil Klemmer told the publication.
Klemmer also teased what those episodes will entail and words like "hot sex" and "demonic possession" were thrown around.
"More than anything, the episode promises to be scary as you know what — tonally it's 'The Exorcist' meets 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,'" he previewed. "Demonic possession in a mental institution — what's not to love?"
Ryan first brought Constantine to life in the short-lived CW series of the same name. The show only ran for one season. After that, he reprised the role in the fourth season of "Arrow." He is also set to voice the character in CW Seed's animated web series, also titled "Constantine."
And while fans are undoubtedly excited to see Constantine again, they may have to say goodbye to a series regular soon. According to Deadline, Victor Garber is departing "Legends of Tomorrow" sometime during the current season.
Garber, who has been portraying Martin Stein (Firestorm) since the show's beginning, is reportedly leaving because he will be headlining the revival of "Hello, Dolly!" opposite Bernadette Peters. The grueling schedule of Broadway shows will not make it possible for Garber to juggle it with the CW series.
"Legends of Tomorrow" season 3 airs Tuesdays, at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
