'Lego Batman' Movie Plot, News, Cast: Mariah Carey Becomes Mayor
The unexpected success of the "Lego Movie" has definitely left fans wanting for more. To temporarily satisfy the desire of audience to see a sequel, a spin-off movie featuring the caped crusader will apparently be served. With big stars that voiced the Lego characters in the first movie, many expect that it will be topped by more famous voices in the next one. Now, one of the biggest names in the music industry is lending her voice to one of the characters in "Lego Batman."
According to Screen Rant, it has now been confirmed by The Hollywoord Reporter that pop diva Mariah Carey will be voicing the Mayor of Gotham. It was initially announced by Deadline that Carey is going to voice Commissioner Gordon, which brought many confusion to the fans. However, a tweet from THR writer Borys Kit cleared things out.
It is said that Gotham Mayor is one of the few female voices in the film and so it would make sense that Carey is going to be cast for it. However, it may not exactly be a huge part as this role has always been minimal in previous Batman movies. Many feel that perhaps there are better actresses more suited to voice over this part, but it is undeniable that Carey's star power will draw in audiences and fans somehow.
"Lego Batman" will be a treat to fans. Albeit being somehow an animated film, it will be the first time since "Batman and Robin" that Batman, voiced by Will Arnett, will be joined by his sidekick Robin and Batgirl, who wil be voiced by Michael Cera and Rosario Dawson. Zach Galifianakis will also be starring as the voice of Batman's most iconic enemy, The Joker. Although it is expected that this movie will be lighter and will bring in a comedic tone, it is said that it will be touching base on the different eras of the Batman franchise.
"Lego Batman" is expected to hit theaters in the United States on February 10, 2017.
