'LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens' first gameplay trailer, key changes

The LEGO iteration of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" from developer TT Fusion and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has received its first gameplay trailer. Fans can expect to see the same humor as the announcement trailer.

The trailer (below) also tells fans to pre-order the "LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Deluxe Edition." The incentive for pre-ordering this edition is early access to "The Empire Strikes Back Character Pack" along with all season pass content.

"LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens" features a number of "key additions" but TT Games has managed to preserve the overall "LEGO Star Wars" experience fans have come to expect, according to The Verge. The publication had a chance to play the game during the Game Developers Conference 2016 and noted that the developer added arena-based dogfighting, a cover system for blaster battles, and multiple builds from the same pile of LEGO bricks.

The upcoming "LEGO Star Wars" game will take place before the movie. Seven of its 18 story levels will explore what happened off-screen and serve as lead-up to "Episode VII," The Verge reports. For instance, the game will explain how C-3PO got his red replacement arm.

The game also features voicework from the original cast, including Daisy Ridley who played Rey in the movie. Lead story designer Graham Goring reveals to the publication in an interview that although they've added voices to "Batman 2" and "LEGO City Undercover," "LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens" represents the first time this has been done to a "LEGO Star Wars" game. Previous "LEGO Star Wars" used pantomime instead.

"It's just the case that we are always trying to do something a bit new with our games," Goring told The Verge. "Lego City Undercover was a game where we were telling an original story. Obviously, when you know a film, you can sort of fill in [what the actors are] saying there. With an original story you can't do that. So we had to do it for that game. And then it just seemed silly to go back from that. It just stuck."

Lucasfilm confirmed "LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens" early last month. The game will be available on June 28 to PS4, Xbox One, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and PC.
