Leica M-D Typ 262 Camera Officially Announced, No LCD Screen Included
German camera manufacturer has officially announced its newest digital M generation camera called the M-D Typ 262. An addition to its rangefinder system of cameras including the M and M-P (Typ 240), the M (Type 262) and the M Monochrom (Typ 264), the latest one in the line was designed with "Das Wescentliche" or "The Essentials" in mind, as noted in Ecumenical News.
With that being said, the camera does not come with an LCD screen on the back of the camera. Digital Photography Review detailed that it is not the first time that Leica has released a digital camera without a monitor as the company already previously launched the limited edition M Edition 60 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its rangefinder camera system. However, the M-D (Typ 262) will be the first full production model without a rear LCD.
So instead of an LCD screen, Leica replaced it with a prominent ISO sensitivity setting dial. Photo Review reported that this feature allows easy access to essential camera settings such as the shutter speed, aperture, distance and sensitivity. Aside from the LCD screen, the camera also has no menu system, no video mode and no Wi-Fi. Users should also take note that the camera doesn't record JPEGs, instead, it will produce RAW format as .DNG files.

As for its other specs and features, Ubergizmo reported that the camera will feature a 24-megapixel high-resolution CMOS sensor which will be paired with the Leica Maestro processor. This particular feature allows the device to produce high-quality images as well as quickly process captured images. It will also be equipped with a viewfinder that has a magnification of 0.68x and a bright-frame markings for 5/135mm, 28/90mm and 50/75mm lenses.
The camera is also going to be quieter this time through the shutter cocking system. It also allows a shutter release frequency of up to two frames per second. The Leica M-D (Type 262) is sold for £4,650 and will be available in Leica stores and authorized Leica dealers in the U.K. this month.
