Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 2 Pro vs Acer Aspire Switch 10 Review: Comparison of Features, Specs, Price

Is it a laptop? Or is it a tablet? That's what most people say when they see the new laptop-tablet hybrids that have been popping up nowadays. In 2013, Lenovo led the pack when it introduced its hybrid PC, the IdeaPad Yoga, and since then other manufacturers have followed suit to produce their own versions of the convertible laptop.

Here, we pit Acer's foray into the hybrid market, the Acer Aspire Switch 10, versus Lenovo's IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro. Each has its own unique features, but one is priced twice as much as the other.

Design:
The IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro retained its predecessor's original design, so it has the same silver finish with the addition of a rubberized trim to make it more stable when in Tent mode. Those who want their gadgets in brighter colors can also get the device in clementine orange. It measures 12.99 x 8.66 x 0.61 inches and weighs 3.06 pounds. This convertible ultrabook has four modes— Laptop, Stand, Tent, and Tablet.

The Aspire Switch 10 has an aluminum lid with subtle crosshatching on it. It has slightly rounded corners. It measures 10.3 x 7 x 0.3 inches and weighs 2.4 pounds. Unlike the Yoga 2 Pro's keyboard which does not detach from the device, the Aspire Switch 10 utilizes powerful magnets rather than a mechanical latch to connect the two halves of the gadget. It has three modes— Laptop, Tablet, and Tent.

Features:
The Yoga 2 Pro has a 13.3 inch display with a resolution of 3200 x 1800 pixels. It also comes equipped with Dolby Home Theater-certified speakers, delivering loud and distortion-free audio even at maximum levels. It packs an Intel processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB internal memory. It also comes with Lenovo apps such as the Yoga Chef, a cooking app that allows one to use voice commands or gestures to navigate cooking instructions.

Meanwhile, the Switch 10 has a 10.1 inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The hybrid's front-facing speakers can also fill a small space with loud audio, but without the rich quality of sound that the Yoga 2 Pro can emit. It's powered by an Intel Atom processor with 2GB of RAM and has internal memory of 64GB. It comes with Acer apps and add-ons such as the Quick Access control panel and third party apps like Netflix, Kindle, and Spotify.

Price:
The Acer Aspire Switch 10 base model starts at $379 to $429, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro costs $1,099.
