LG G5 News: Is There An LG G5 Lite Coming Out Soon?
A new rumor is making the rounds that the upcoming flagship LG G5 will not be launched by its lonesome, but will be accompanied by a mid-range or "lite" version of the flagship device. According to a report in Tech Times, a variant of the LG G5 going by the model number LG H840 has been found on a benchmarking site.
The model number of the rumored device is close to the LG G5's rumored model number which is LG H830. The news comes courtesy of a German site which claims that it saw the device pass through a benchmarking site, indicating that it packs lower-end specs than that of the LG G5.
The report cited that LG is going against the grain if this news is true. The usual practice of most manufacturers is to release a more powerful variant of the flagship device, not a less-powerful one. The rumored LG G5 Lite reportedly appeared on GFXBench with its specs indicating that it is a midrange smartphone.
According to the report by WinFuture, a German website, the LG G5 Lite will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625. This is thought to be quite a leap back from the Snapdragon 820 which is what the LG G5 will reportedly have. It will be paired with 3 GB of RAM and will have an internal storage of 32 GB.
The device's size is said to be smaller than the LG G5, at 5.3-inches and will have a 2,560 x 1,440 pixels resolution. The LG G5 is said to have a 5.6-inch screen. In terms of camera set-up, the listing cited that the device will have two 8-megapixel cameras on both sides.
The device's processor is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 820 and thus is not expected to run on the latest Android OS. According to the report, it will come pre-installed with Android 4.4 Kitkat only, although the report also speculated that this can still be bumped up to a newer Android OS.
No other features were mentioned, such as expandable storage support or even support of a Quick Cover. It is also not known whether the device will make its debut with the LG G5 at the Mobile World Congress in a few days. Given that the benchmarking site may have listed a prototype, it is still possible that the final specs of the device have changed.
The Tech Times report also mentioned that this is similar to what happened to the LG G4 and the LG G4 Beat. After the company released the LG G4, it also unveiled an affordable version called the LG G4 Beat, which was a decent midranger because it came with a decent price.
