LG Wine Smart to Be Available in Select Markets Around the World
Just recently, LG released a device called the Gentle which sports the iconic clamshell design bringing some nostalgic feels to flip phone users. The flip phone runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and though it was initially planned to be launched only in its home market South Korea, the company made some turn around with their decision and has confirmed already the release of the Gentle in select international markets, according to reports.
Gentle — which will be branded the LG Wine Smart — will be available later this month in France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Japan, Kazakhstan and the U.K.
The flip phone measures 117.7 x 58.7 x 16.6mm and weighs in at 143 grams. It features a 3.2-inch display with a resolution of 480x320 and comes in two choices of colors—burgundy and navy. It will have a quad-core 1.1 GHz Snapdragon 210 CPU under the hood and a 1GB of RAM and 4GB internal memory via microSD slot.
It will have a 3MP rear camera, front VGA shooter and a 1,700mAh battery.
The handset will also offer Bluetooth 4.1 and LTE connectivity, although there isn't any detail yet with the specific bands supported. It features a 3 x 4 physical number pad for easy typing and a cluster of shortcut buttons to provide easy access. There is no official price yet, but the Gentle retails for $170 in South Korea, so the company will likely offer the Wine Smart in international markets around that same price. Despite the rise of innovative smartphones, LG created the flip phone with a goal.
"Our goal with LG Wine Smart was to create a smartphone that fans of flip phones could embrace," said Chris Yie, vice president and head of marketing communications for LG Mobile Communications.
LG's target market for this device are mainly those who utilize their phone primarily for talking, not gaming or browsing, for parents who have young children who needs to be connected but not distracted by games, older people, and those who occasionally need smart functions, according to The Verge.
