'Life is Strange' Developers Reveal New Horror RPG 'Vampyr'
A relative newcomer in the gaming development industry, French game developer Dontnod Entertainment is working on another video game after it released the interactive drama graphic adventure game "Life is Strange" earlier this year. Their next project is titled "Vampyr."
Dontnod released a concept video for the upcoming horror role-playing video game at the E3 2015. The game will be published by Focus Home Entertainment and is set to be released in 2017 for PC, and next-generation consoles, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. According to the report, the game is being developed using the Unreal Engine 4, a game engine originally developed by Epic Games.
The game is described as "a deeply immersive" role-playing game that's "steeped in vampire mythology." The concept video shows that the game is set in 1876 Great Britain at a time when there is a breakout of the Spanish Flu. While the people of London are gripping with the disease and its impact on society, vampires are seen in the background, taking advantage of the chaos and fear.
The main character is military surgeon Jonathan E. Reid who has recently returned from war with a dark secret – he too is a vampire. He struggles to survive as a vampire and given many of society's ills as well as the dictates of his conscience; it's a difficult life to live. He must feed to survive and he must choose his prey carefully.
Everyone that the player encounters in the game has a name, a distinct personality and a history. The choice on who to "feed" on must be made in consideration of the fact that if one non-playable character is chosen, his or her death will affect the rest of the game. Once a prey is selected, the player must plan out how to proceed. The player, as Dr. Reid, also needs to foster relationships with the different NPCs in the game.
Human blood also has regenerative powers. Without it, the player's vampire abilities will be lost, so regular feeding is a must. The game features open exploration as well as a crafting system that allows players to craft weapons. Real-time combat is also another game feature.
