'Lightfield' Release Date, News: Indie Omnidirectional Racer Is Slated for PS4 and Xbox One

Most adrenaline-pumped racing games are now going to different extremes to make everything look realistic, but almost all of them are confined to the rules of sticking within the race track. This is something that indie studio Lost in the Garden is aiming to deviate from with the unique game "Lightfield."

"Lightfield" is described to be a cross between classic arcade racing and free flying, which means there are practically no bounds. With the catchphrase "There is no path, there are no limits," the game stays true to that dogma by eliminating race tracks, invisible walls and even guides to reach a certain goal. The player is given the liberty to explore the vast space of the title.

The team is composed of four creative individuals, namely Julia, Raimund, Matthias and Simon. What initially started as a mere ground and flight hybrid racing title evolved into what it is now, and the team has come a long way with its development, from the freedom of the tracks to the easy controls.

On a PlayStation blog post, co-founder Simon Wallner is still feeling very ecstatic that they are close to making the game into reality. "'Lightfield' became this omnidirectional version of parkour with spaceships where you can attach your ship to any surface, go inverted, and find your own lines through the race tracks and environments," Wallner said.

To show exactly how much work and effort has been placed into its creation, a trailer was made to tease everyone, and it poses infinite possibilities. With vibrant colors at every corner and the multitude of ways to run the race, it is sure to bring hours of fun for gamers.

"Lightfield" is currently in development for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. There are currently no plans on porting it to PCs, although there could be a possibility in the future.

There is no definite date yet but "Lightfield" is coming soon to the abovementioned platforms.
