Lisa Kudrow Returns to HBO for 'The Comeback'

It's been nearly a decade since HBO cancelled "The Comeback" after its freshman season. So it was a big surprise when the network announced that the show will be back on air for its much awaited second season with an eight-episode run, and with Lisa Kudrow reprising her role as Valerie Cherish, a '90s sitcom star who is hoping to make a comeback in Hollywood.

In the season 2 premiere, Valerie was one of the original cast members of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills." The show also highlights how much things have changed in the last few years in a scene involving 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' star Lisa Vanderpump and Bravo host Andy Cohen as themselves.

Time has not been kind to Valerie as she shows viewers several footages of her work from a student slasher film, a cameo in a terrible crime procedural, and an infomercial for her own line of red-hair hair care products.

In an interview with E! Online, executive producer and co-creator Michael Patrick King talks about how the show was able to return after a very long hiatus.

"A few reasons, but the biggest one is Lisa Kudrow's Valerie Cherish," said King. "People could not stop thinking of her. Valerie is a completely unique, special, complicated comic character that is so many things and people sort of couldn't get enough of her."

"A lot of shows get cancelled. A lot of people don't get to see their shows again. A lot of people who create shows get their hearts broken, and everybody moves on. But for some reason the energy of what Lisa and what we did on The Comeback, Valerie kept going," he added.

"The Comeback" airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO.
