'Little Women' Air Date, Teaser, Cast News: Take a Look at the New March Sisters
Louisa May Alcott's 1868 classic novel "Little Women" will once again get an adaptation on the small screen from a collaboration between BBC and PBS. The networks recently unveiled a first look at the new March sisters.
A first-ever photo released on the PBS site revealed the four leads of "Little Women" in their costume. They are Kathryn Newton ("Big Little Lies") as Amy, Willa Fitzgerald ("Scream: The TV Series") as Meg, new actress Maya Hawke as Jo, and Annes Elwy ("Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams") as Beth.
Joining the girls in "Little Women" are Angela Lansbury ("Murder, She Wrote") as Aunt March and Michael Gambon ("Harry Potter") as Mr. Laurence, the neighbor. Emily Watson ("Gosford Park") will play Marmee, the girls' mom.

The show will play out as a three-hour miniseries from a script that Heidi Thomas wrote and Vanessa Caswill directed. Work on the set is still actively taking place in Ireland and BBC nor PBS has not yet set a premiere date for U.K. and U.S. viewers.
"Little Women is one of the most loved novels in the English language, and with good reason," Thomas said in the press release. "Its humanity, humor and tenderness never date, and as a study of love, grief and growing up it has no equal," she added. "I am thrilled to be bringing the March girls to a new generation of viewers."
"Little Women" has been adapted for the big and small screen quite a number of times. Elizabeth Taylor starred in a 1949 film version in while Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, and Kirsten Dunst also did a movie based on Alcott's novel in 1994.
On television, "Little Women" became a 1979 miniseries starring Meredith Baxter. CBS also launched a musical inspired by the March sisters in 1958. Lea Thompson is also part of a "Little Women" movie from an independent outfit. It will arrive in select theaters in 2018.
