London Terror Attack News Update 2017: Heightened Police Presence Expected In London After Parsons Green Explosion
Head counter-terrorism officer from Scotland Yard announced that they will be deploying an additional 1,000 armed police in the streets of London after the latest terror attack in one of the city's Tube station.
Independent reported that Assistant Commander Mark Rowley issued a statement regarding the heightened police presence in London after the city's terror threat level increased from Severe to Critical since there is a strong possibility of having another attack.
According to Rowley's televised statement, residents of the city will notice more police on the streets in the coming days. He also mentioned that several military personnel will be sent to strategic sites like nuclear power stations as part of the Operation Temperer.
"Hundreds of police officers are pursuing numerous lines of enquiry, trawling through hours of CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses," he stated.
The Scotland Yard officer also revealed that the bombing device and its remnants that are discovered at the scene of the crime at the Parsons Green Tube station were already recovered and currently being examined by the forensic experts.
The Scotland Yard experts were also reportedly working to uncover the identity of the suspect who could be responsible for implanting the explosive device on the train.
Residents from the western London area were shocked with a loud explosion that came from one of the District Line trains that bring commuters from Parsons Green suburbs to the city center early Friday, Sept. 15. It is considered as the fourth terror attack in the city for this year alone.
The explosion caused by an improvised explosive device reportedly injured at least 29 people, including a young boy who may not be older than 10-years-old.
After the incident, British Prime Minister Theresa May released a statement that reminds Londoners to be vigilant while moving forward with their lives. "The public should go about their business in the normal way but be vigilant and co-operate with police," May said.
