Looney Tunes News: Warner Bros. Wants Speedy Gonzales' Solo Film Fast Tracked

Looney Tune character Speedy Gonzales is finally getting his own solo spinoff movie, which will feature a Robin Hood-like take on the character. While it is true that the film has been under development with Warner Bros. since 2010, the company has now ordered to give the "Speedy Gonzales" movie more speed in terms of production.

Speedy Gonzales may not be the most famous Looney Tune character, and the news of him getting a solo film feature may prompt fans of other Looney Tune characters to raise their eyebrows. However, according to a press release of Warner Bros., the move has something to do with the possibility of Donald Trump setting foot in the White House.

"We see this as an origin story of the great master, like a Robin Hood character, who ultimately ends up taking from the rich and giving to the poor. In a time when Donald Trump is gaining momentum, the world needs Speedy more than ever," said producer David Sellers in a statement released to the media.

While it's true that Speedy Gonzales pales in comparison with some Looney Tune characters, such as Bugs Bunny, Tweety Bird, Tom and Jerry, and many more, in terms of popularity, the same thing cannot be said about the cartoon mouse character in Mexico. According to Mexican actor and director Eugenio Derbez, who will also lend his voice to the character in its upcoming solo movie, Speedy Gonzales is a popular character in Mexico. In that part of the world, the character is deemed like a superhero or a revolutionary.

"… I'm really excited to be bringing this character to the big screen. And besides being Mexican— my full name is Eugenio Derbez Gonzalez and I have big ears. The casting couldn't be better," said Gonzales.

Tentatively, the movie is titled "Speedy," which is described by Warner Bros. itself as a "heist caper." Once done, the movie will be released in both Spanish and English versions.

No official date of the movie release has been made available as of this writing.
