LA Lakers Trade Rumors, News 2014: Michael Beasley to Fill Center Forward Spot
Before the next season starts, the Los Angeles Lakers are currently looking for players to fill up their roster. Right now, they have their sights set on former Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley.
For the second time Wednesday, the Lakers have been trying to work out a deal with Beasley but there is still no news about the upcoming deal. The Lakers, however, have been trying to sign Beasley in as early as July but no deal was made.
Donald Wood of the Bleacher Report believes that Beasley isn't the best option for the Lakers in the free-agent market. Right now, the team is exploring every plausible option and have canvassed seven other players.
Sam Amick of USA Today lists the included players to be "forward Michael Beasley; big men Dexter Pittman, Greg Stiemsma, and Daniel Orton; and guards Bobby Brown, Toney Douglas, Ben Hansbrough, and Malcolm Lee."
Out of the seven players, it would seem that the Laker's best option would really be the 25-year old Beasley. The former Miami heat forward had been a former no. 2 overall draft pick and is an impressive player on the offensive front. There are issues however, about his work ethic and maturity.
During his six-year career in the NBA, he has played for three different teams and has been struggling to get in a starting lineup consistently. The fact that Miami Heat did not want Beasley back for the season causes some hesitation as well.
The Lakers desperately need a center forward and Beasley can easily fill out the position, but his time on the court will be sporadic as he will be constantly be switched with Nick Young and Wesley Johnson at small forward and Carlos Boozer, Julius Randle, and Ed Davis at power forward.
