Los Angeles Lakers NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Shop Lou Williams Before Trade Deadline
A lot of trade rumors involving the Los Angeles Lakers may have come up in the past couple of months, but the team hasn't made any moves so far. They haven't been making much noise in the trade market this season, but it looks like that's about to change with the trade deadline just a week away.
Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype said an opposing general manager told him the Lakers have been actively shopping Lou Williams and he believes the guard might be moved before the Feb. 23 deadline. Williams has been the team's most consistent scorer this season and he's currently leading the team in scoring despite only playing a little over 24 minutes a game.
He has carved out a niche as their sparkplug off of the bench, so a lot of contenders are probably keeping an eye on him. Some people have even suggested that the Cleveland Cavaliers should give him a look since they want to add a playmaker to take the load off LeBron James' shoulders. Williams could fit that role perfectly while coming off the bench.
Meanwhile, after the Lakers' game against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, Williams addressed the rumors and he said he would just concentrate on playing.
"I just hoop, and I let the powers that be deal with that. I'm a little old-school in my approach. I play for the team that I have the jersey on for. I don't really deal with hypotheticals, so if something happens, it happens, if it doesn't, it doesn't, and I'm gonna compete for the Lakers," he said, according to the LA Times.
Williams has been an odd fit in a rebuilding team like the Lakers. The team wants to develop their young core of players, so trading away a proven veteran like Williams should free up more playing time for D'Angelo Russell, Brandon Ingram, and Jordan Clarkson.
