Los Angeles Rams NFL Trade Rumors: Rams Listening to Offers for Trumaine Johnson

Trumaine Johnson might have signed his one-year, $16.7-million franchise tender earlier this week, but he could still end up somewhere else this season

According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Los Angeles Rams are open to trading Johnson and they have already discussed potential deals with several clubs. Nothing is imminent, though. ESPN has also reported that a source told National Football League (NFL) insider Josina Anderson that the team was indeed listening to offers for their cornerback.

"So much of what the Rams are doing is about building and they would be able to get a significant draft-pick haul for one of the top corners in the game," Rapoport said, according to NFL.com.

Instead of working out a long-term deal with Johnson, the Rams opted to place the franchise tag on him for the second season in the row earlier this month. Of course, they still have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal with Johnson. If Johnson hadn't signed the franchise tender, he could have signed with another team. However, that team will have to send two first-round picks to the Rams as compensation. The team would have loved to get two high picks for their cornerback.

ESPN's Alden Gonzalez believes trading Johnson makes sense since the Rams may get a high-round pick in return. However, he also noted that they may have a hard time looking for a trade partner.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora thinks the trade rumors surrounding Johnson doesn't make sense.

"And I am supposed to believe, at a time when the corner market is full of options in free agency (none of whom require any compensation to sign and several of whom have better resumes than Johnson), teams are calling the Rams dying to take this contract off their hands? Really? Smells like fake news to me," La Canfora said in his piece.
