No. 1 seeded Louisville have done well throughout the tournament so far and have confidently navigated their way to this Final Four encounter in Atlanta. Not many would have expected No. 9 seeded Wichita to have reached this stage, but they have turned over a number of high seeded teams and will be looking to take down the tournament favorites tonight.
Much of the talk last weekend was of the Cardinal's Kevin Ware, after he suffered an horrific injury on court during their win against Duke in the Midwest Region final. However, the 33-5 Cardinals did not allow that injury to distract them and they won through in a 85-63 rout to earn their 10th Final Four appearance in the school's history.
Ware was injured in the first half of that game, when he jumped up to try and block a three-point shot from Duke. However, as he landed the bottom half of his leg gave way and he snapped his right tibia in two different places.
The injury was so horrific that players on the bench fell off onto the floor as they turned away cringing. Players on court also fell to the floor in shock, with some reportedly crying as Ware was taken away.
Ware meanwhile reportedly was telling his teammates to focus as he was stretchered off to be rushed to hospital for surgery - he told them they had to win the game.
The Cardinals went on to put together a 50-31 burst in the second half led by Gorgui Dieng's 14 points and 11 rebounds, and guard Rush Smith's 23 points.
Wichita meanwhile added Ohio State to their list of victims last week, succeeding in reaching only their second ever Final Four game in history.
Forward Cleanthony Early collected 12 points and seven rebounds, and Malcolm Armstead had 14 points, seven rebounds, and three steals in Wichita State's 70-66 win over the Buckeyes in the West Regional final.
Also impressive was guard Fred VanVleet, who led the bench with 12 points. Meanwhile, the Shockers defense held Ohio State to just 31 percent shooting, including 5-for-25 from 3-point range.
Louisville Cardinals vs Wichita State Shockers tips off at 6.09 p.m. ET and can be watched on TV on the CBS network, or alternatively the game can be watched online through free live stream by clicking here.
