'Love Kome: We Love Rice' Season 2 Air Date, Spoilers: Personified Rice Grains to Return in October
"Love Kome: We Love Rice," the short-form anime series that features rice grains personified as schoolboys, is returning in October for its sophomore season.
The series, which is also known as simply "Love Rice," tells the story of five new rice students studying at the Kokuritsu Inaho Academy with only one goal in mind: to put together the best performance at the special concert known as The Harvest Show in order to regain the rice grain's lost glory.
Since the Yeast King has begun dominating dinner tables in Japan, the popularity of rice grains has also continued to decline. It is for this reason that the Kokuritsu Inaho Academy is on the verge of shutting down. But after five passionate rice students enrolled in the school, the once dying hope for rice grain is reignited.
These five students have formed a new group known as Love Rice, and have been practicing with the sole intention of bringing the Yeast King down once and for all on the next Harvest Show.
The 12-episode first season of the said series aired in April of this year and was simultaneously streamed on Crunchyroll. Shortly after it ended, it was announced that a second season will begin airing in October.
The original concept of the show has been credited to Yuuki Takabayashi, who was also in charge of the script supervision in the first season. Planning and original work were done by Yaoyorozu, with Takashi Horiuchi directing for Encourage Films. Levin Aoi took care of the character designs, while Takashi Ifukube wrote the episode scripts.
A manga tie-in that featured an original story was launched on Feb. 24 on the free manga website "Genma!" The series has also since inspired a live-action stage play adaptation.
"Love Kome: We Love Rice" season 2 premieres on Monday, Oct. 9, late night at 1:15 a.m. JST on Tokyo MX. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources will be available on the series' official site at a later date.
