'Lucky's Tale' VR Gets Gameplay Trailer
With the Oculus Rift months from its release, the VR game that was earlier announced to come free with the VR headset, "Lucky's Tale" has shared its first gameplay trailer. The gameplay trailer was released by developer Playful, showing the game's protagonist, a fox named Lucky, as he explores different game settings.
"Lucky's Tale" is a virtual reality platform game which was designed specifically for the Oculus Rift. Like most platform games, it is played in the third-person and therefore, in VR, it is seen from a third-person perspective. As the gameplay video shows, the player follows Lucky as he navigates his way around different worlds. Among the actions that Lucky needs to perform are jumping, running and climbing.
According to a Tech Times report, the video demonstrates how the player can control Lucky's movements – one can look around and study the environment first before making their move. Players can virtually look up, down or wherever they want, so long as nothing is blocking their sight. Lucky can then move according to where the player wants to take him.
"Join Lucky as he runs, jumps, climbs and spins his way through bright, colorful worlds filled with thrilling challenges, wacky creatures, and all the shiny things a little fox could ever want," according to its description in the Playful website.
A video report on NerdAlert also featured its reporter as she gets a hands-on experience with "Lucky's Tale" through the Oculus Rift. The reporter cited that she felt that she was "moving" but at the same time she was not. She also interviewed Paul Bettner, CEO of Playful, who said that what he wanted people to experience was that they were literally inside the game with Lucky. He also noted that players may feel like a kid again as VR will bring back the way they used to imagine being inside the game.
