Macbook Air Retina 2014 News: Rumored Laptop a No-Show at Apple Event
Fans who were hoping for the fabled Macbook Air Retina 2014 to be released on Apple's Oct. 16 event were sorely disappointed when the laptop was a no-show at the gathering. Instead, Apple chose to focus on the new generation iPads, an update to iOS8, the OS X Yosemite, a new Mac Mini and the iMac with Retina 5K display.
Though the Air Retina was not announced, many are still looking forward to the day when it will be unveiled, but a report from Engadget claims that the laptop may never see the light of day.
The website reports that in order for the laptop to have a Retina display, it should have a strong battery life and a powerful graphics processor. The MacBook Pro with Retina is one example of an Apple laptop that has these features. The 13-inch model weighs 3.46 pounds, and has a wider and thicker chassis than the current MacBook Air, with the 13-inch version weighing in at only 2.96 pounds. The size and weight of the MacBook Pro can accommodate the battery and the processor needed for the Retina display, while the MacBook Air cannot.
Moreover, as the rumored MacBook Air Retina is said to sport a 12-inch screen and is touted to be lighter than the current MacBook Air, if Apple gets around to producing it, there is a possibility that it won't have the Retina screen, unless of course they make it a little bigger and wider than its rumored specs.
With the absence of the MacBook Air Retina, all eyes are on the latest gadgets launched by the Cupertino-based company, particularly the iMac with Retina 5K display, which has one of the best displays ever on any device. The new desktop does not come cheap though, as it reportedly costs $2,499, but for those looking for an optimum experience when using a computer for editing films, photos, or doing any design work, the iMac Retina 5K is said to be very much worth the price.
