Macbook Air 2014 Retina Display Arriving Holiday 2014 or Mid-2015, Depending on Processor
Apple's year isn't over yet as they are still set to release a new Macbook Air that's rumored to have a Retina display this time. It is still unclear on whether or not the Cupertino company could actually make the 2014 release. More than likely, the Macbook Air with Retina display could be getting a mid-2015 release date.
Intel has been causing the delay of the laptops as the processors that Apple needs for the new Macbook Air has experienced a delay in production. The Macbook Air needs the Broadwell Core-M chips and the 14nm chips is expected to come out on October.
While it seems to be a relief for Apple that the chips are finally coming out before Christmas, there is little to celebrate as Intel now has to face demand constraints as Apple isn't the only company that will be using the new Broadwell Core-M chips. A number of other laptop manufacturers like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Toshiba are also going to be using the Core-M chips.
If Apple is lucky, they might be able to put out the new Macbook Air with Retina displays before Christmas. There are rumors, however, that Apple will instead be using a different series of Intel Core i5 Broadwell processors. If so, then this could mean that the release date is pushed back to mid-2015.
Unlike previous Macbook Air models, the new Macbook Air is rumored to only have one size variant, instead of the usual 11-inch and 13-inch versions. The new Macbook could be going getting a 12-inch screen combining the portability of the 11-inch Macbook Air and the power and versatility of the 13-inch.
There are also rumors that Apple is planning another event in October which is speculated to unveil the new iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3. Details regarding the 12-inch Macbook Air could be revealed there as well.
