'Madam Secretary' News: Oct. 19 Episode Plot Revealed, Sakina Jaffrey to Guest Star on November Episode
CBS' new political drama, "Madam Secretary," sees Tea Leoni's return to television as the actress has not starred in a TV series since the 1990s comedy "The Naked Truth."
It was executive producer Barbara Hall's pilot that reportedly won her over, as Leoni said during a Television Critics Association press tour in July, "I've always really enjoyed [playing] a lively fish out of water and pretty much by about page two of the script, I knew that's what this was going to be."
The show, which premiered on Sept. 21, follows the professional and personal life of Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Leoni), described as "a brilliant CIA analyst turned college professor." She returns to Washington D.C. as a favor to the president, who she considers a good friend. Though the president values Elizabeth's frankness and the way she handles the job on her own terms, the same qualities are not always appreciated, especially by other members of the White House Staff.
Here is the official synopsis of the fifth episode of "Madame Secretary" titled "Blame Canada."
"Elizabeth faces the daunting task of negotiating with Iran over their escalating nuclear program. Determined to deal with the situation in a peaceful manner, she has to get creative when the president seems determined to take military action. Meanwhile, Jason's respect for Henry grows as he interviews him for a school report," a synopsis read.
In other news, Sakina Jaffrey is set to guest star on a November episode of the show. According to Zap2it, Jaffrey will play Chondita Samant, the Foreign Minister of India and Elizabeth's counterpart in New Delhi who she deals with on her first State Department visit abroad.
Watch "Madame Secretary" on Sundays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
