'Madam Secretary' Season 4 Episode 4 Spoilers: Who Will be Elizabeth's Next Chief of Staff?

Elizabeth (Tea Leoni) will need to find a new Chief of Staff in the upcoming episode of "Madam Secretary."

Last episode, Nadine (Bebe Neuwirth) told the secretary that she wanted to spend some time with her son and his family. Roman (Ethan Peck) asked his mother for help to resolve his girlfriend's travel problem. Nadine went to the Homeland Security to plead Roman's case and she succeeded. Later on, his son said he wished Nadine live close by. His girlfriend was pregnant, and they would want his mom to be part of this new milestone in their lives.

Nadine then decided that she had had enough of all the drama in Washington. After the government shutdown, she believed she needed to get away from all the stress and problems. She told Elizabeth that she wanted to relocate to San Francisco and that she wanted to quit her job. Although she was sad that her staff chief was leaving, Elizabeth did not have the heart to stop Nadine. They parted amicably, and Nadine formally said goodbye to the others in the State Department.

Neuwirth said that it was her personal decision to leave the show. She expressed her thanks to CBS and the showrunners for granting her request. Now that Nadine has left Elizabeth's team, it is only a matter of time until a new Chief of Staff gets chosen. Jay (Sebastian Arcelus) is a strong contender. Meanwhile, Russell (Zeljko Ivanek) is expected to double his efforts to bring back the former glory of President Dalton's (Keith Carradine) administration.

In an interview with TVLine, Ivanek said that his character is more than ready to face new struggles, even after the health scare that he experienced. Last season, Russell had a heart attack.

"There definitely are situations which are more personal as a result and confrontations that play out differently as a result, because you kind of can't help but be forced into having some perspective when you step back from that kind of a crisis," Ivanek said. "Most of our situations are crises, and when you're running from crisis to crisis, everything is ramped up to its worst, and all those lessons tend to fall away."

"Madam Secretary" season 4 airs Sundays, at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
