'Major Crimes' Season 5 Episode 14: Sharon Loses Patience With a Rival
Sharon (Mary McDonnell) will face off with her closest rival in the race to become the next Assistant Chief of Special Operations in the upcoming premiere of the second half of the current season of "Major Crimes."
In the episode titled "Heart Failure," the synopsis reveals that Sharon will find herself losing patience with Winnie Davis (Camryn Manheim), the Deputy Chief of Operations. The latter seems to be taking their competition too seriously. Both women are strong candidates for Russell Taylor's (Robert Gossett) old position. After his untimely death, the higher ups have been screening probable names to take over the job. Winnie wants the promotion badly and she sees Sharon as a threat.
Series creator James Duff said in September that the race would be tight.
"Sharon is going to be in the race for Assistant Chief [of Special Operations], and she will be in that race with Camryn Manheim and an as-of-yet unannounced third actor. And that will be the thrust of the back eight [episodes], which is: 'Who will get that job?' — and the changes that come with it," Duff told TVLine.
In the premiere, the Major Crimes Division will be handling a murder case involving a young woman whose body is found floating in the river. As Sharon's team starts their investigation, Winnie will try her best to impede any progress. She thinks that if Sharon solves this case, the board will be in favor of her promotion. Winnie will not be the only one to make problems for the squad. A person working for a technology industry millionaire is also doing his best to stop the probe. Sharon's team will definitely have to dig deep to ensure that justice will be served to the victim.
"Major Crimes" season 5 will return on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 9 p.m. EST on TNT.
