Major League Soccer Preview and Prediction: DC United vs New York Red Bulls
Both teams are neck in neck with 10 points so far.
Both teams hungry for points in the early part of the season, DC United and New York Red Bulls, will clash at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Major League Soccer. The matchup is on May 13 at 7 p.m. ET.
In the early part of the season, both teams have played 10 games and have 10 points to show for. New York Red Bulls are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference while DC United are seventh -- with New York holding the upper hand thanks to three wins in the league as compared to two from DC.
And if the playoffs began today, then New York would take the last playoff spot and DC would be out of the race. This sets up a very interesting battle between the two teams as they will surely battle for three points.
Looking at their respective forms, New York have a better run as of late as they are unbeaten in their last three games. They have also won two of those three, with big wins over Orlando City and Dallas FC. Their most recent battle was a 1-1 draw against Orlando City in their battle in Florida.
On the other hand, DC United have only won once in their last four league games -- a 3-0 thrashing of New England Revolution. They lost to Toronto and New York City in that stretch while settling for a 1-1 draw against Chicago Fire.
As for their head-to-head battles, history shows that they are evenly contested as 14 wins in the history for DC United, while 13 for New York Red Bulls. However, the Red Bulls have won their last three meetings, with DC's last win back in November 2014 in a 2-1 affair. The last time the two teams met at Washington, New York won 1-0 thanks to Dax McCarty's goal in the 72nd minute.
