Makers of 'Starbound' Release New Screens for Upcoming School of Magic RPG
Chucklefish, the maker of "Starbound" and their upcoming title "Wargroove," has also teased at a new role-playing game set in a school of magic. Even though the game has no official title yet, early development screenshots have been met with much anticipation.
The first screens that Chucklefish CEO Finn Brice posted on Twitter have been met with excitement from "Starbound" fans looking towards more of the company's signature light-hearted art style and story.
Perhaps influenced by "Harry Potter" or the more recent "Little Witch Academia" series, the game looks to capture the whimsy of a school that teaches magic. Chucklefish will not be officially announcing the game until they get the tone just right, as company founder Finn Brice shared with PC Gamer, along with new screenshots of the game.
The studio is currently working on "Wargroove," but the idea of a magical school just stuck during a brainstorming session. "When we finished the game last year, we took the opportunity to let all team members pitch their ideas for new projects," designer Rosie Ball said, referring to their hit game "Starbound."
"What surprised us most was that even though this idea was pitched as a long project, the idea of a magic school game drew everyone in and got people excited," she added.
As for their influences, the team admits to copping from J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series. A lot of the charm that they are trying to emulate, however, is from Studio Ghibli's classics like "Kiki's Delivery Service."
"Little Witch Academia," while it has been a popular show among the team, was a bit late in coming to the team's attention as they were already deep into the design work by then, Abi Cooke Hunt said. The designer added that it is the visual charm of Studio Ghibli that they are trying to capture, much in the same way that the cheerful tones of "Stardew Valley" was built.
