Maksim Chmerkovskiy Talks Meryl Davis, 'DWTS' Season 20 and Friendship With Kirstie Alley
Maksim Chmerkovskiy made his exit from "Dancing With the Stars" in the best way possible after the dance pro won the Mirror Ball Trophy with his partner, Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis, during season 18 of the show.
But Chmerkovskiy hasn't stopped performing as he's currently getting ready to dance at "Sway: A Dance Trilogy" with his brother Valentin and best friend Tony Dovolani on June 5 in New York City for two nights at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Davis will also be performing with him on the show, to the delight of their fans everywhere.
"We decided to do it again," Chmerkovskiy told Radar Online. "The entire cast that we had last time is just all of my friends and they all happen to be brilliant dancers. Why not put something together?"
Chmerkovskiy and his friends were on "Sway" last December, and many fans were thrilled to see Davis with them. Though there were reports and speculations that the two are secretly dating, the dancer maintains that they are just friends and nothing more.
"Meryl and I are very close friends," he says. "We just maintained our friendship from when the season was over. We never had anything romantic."
Chmerkovskiy also said that he's currently watching season 20 of "DWTS" and thinks that his brother and his partner, Rumer Willis, have a shot to win the golden Mirror Ball Trophy.
"I think Val and Rumer are one of the ones who have a chance to win," he said.
Chmerkovskiy also told Radar Online about his friendship with former "DWTS" partner Kirstie Alley. It was previously reported that Alley stopped speaking to him and that her involvement in Scientology was to blame.
"We're good I think," said Chmerkovskiy. "I'm upset that I don't get to call her every day just because I want to."
But he said that he doesn't judge Alley for her beliefs.
"She belongs to a certain group that I have absolutely no opinion on. I don't judge anybody for anything they believe in," the dancer explained.
