'Maleficent 2' Release Date, Rumors: How Likely Will Angelina Jolie Reprise Her Role?
It has been a long time since Disney's "Maleficent" hit the theaters, yet it remains to be one of the most memorable films yet, probably because it shifted the focus from the supposed protagonist to the initially thought villain, showing a deeper side to her. As such, fans are clamoring for a sequel to the movie, and it looks like the main character herself is considering her return.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Angelina Jolie is pondering on many acting roles this year, and one of them is reliving her role as the powerful yet kind fairy turned bad and then turned good again for "Maleficent 2." Although she has not officially confirmed this yet, it is obviously going to be met with jubilation from a huge crowd of fans.
This was not the first time that Jolie was rumored to accept the role for the sequel. The Wrap has also mentioned that Linda Woolverton, who created the script for the first film, is going to write the second movie's script with the expectation that Jolie will be there again. There is no deal in place yet, however.

The question on everyone's mind is this — how likely is Jolie to reprise her role? It can be recalled that she is very nitpicky when it comes to doing sequels, declining the offer for both "Salt" and "Wanted," which is probably because of what happened to the Tomb Raider franchise. If she accepts, however, then this will be a first after a very long time.
She did, however, tease in the past that she could take up her staff once more, although she admits it is going to be difficult. "It's kind of hard to top her. She was pretty fun. Maybe I'll get the chance to play her again."
"Maleficent" was a phenomenal success at the box office. With a $180-million budget, it was able to hit $758,536,735 worldwide, The Numbers has learned. One can expect that the sequel can, more or less, match that or even exceed it.
If the rumors are true, "Maleficent 2" could possibly come between 2017 to 2019, although this year might be pushing it.
