Man Knifed in Back, Slept for 10 Hours Unaware
A man was knifed in the back during a fight on his front porch early Sunday morning but didn't realize it and went to sleep. In the morning when the New Jersey man asked his brother to check him for the source of his back pain, he discovered the blade in the middle of his back.
The man who found the knife in his back had been drinking in his Trenton, N.J. home Saturday night and stepped out on to the porch to have a cigarette, according to reports. While there, a stranger asked him for a light, he declined and it resulted in an argument and fight. The unnamed man, 42, began to win, so the stranger ran away.
"He said, 'I'm not chasing after the guy,'" Lt. Mark Kieffer of the Trenton police told NJ.com.
The man then went to sleep in his home for 10 hours before waking up with serious back pain. He asked his brother to investigate and he found he had been stabbed.
"His brother said he had a knife blade protruding from his back," Kieffer said.
The victim called police at about noon and said the blade was about five inches long. The Trenton man was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center to have the knife taken out, according to NJ.com.
Doctors have said the man will be fine and survive his injury.
Despite being stabbed, the man was reportedly "very uncooperative" with police detectives while at the hospital. He refused to give a full description of the suspect, which led some readers to jump to conclusions about the lack of details.
"We know who has the answers- the victim!" jacaza wrote on the NJ.com blog. "The police need to pressure him into squealing so they can get the stabber off the streets!"
"Sounds like the victim knew who his assailant was and street justice will ensue," another agreed.
