Man Threatens to Burn Down Church in Danbury, CT; Terrorist Threats Plague Area
Police arrested a man threatening to burn down a local church in Danbury, Conn. this week.
David Guerra, 40, was taken in by authorities after disrupting a Sunday service at Saint Peter's Church. He was escorted out of the downtown church after he had an outburst where he threatened to set fire to the building.
Police apprehended Guerra in the parking lot and charged him with first degree criminal trespassing, second degree threatening and breach of peace, according to an email by police spokesman Lt. Christian Carroccio. He was held on $25,000 bond. Police did not elaborate on the nature of the man's outburst.
No further information is available on the case at this time.
Officials in the area also had to deal with threats made to their own organization this week.
Keith McDonald, a 27 year old Danbury resident reportedly called 911 to voice his displeasure with a previously undisclosed government data collection program. During the call he also threatened to "blow up" his apartment building, according Carroccio.
Macdonald was arrested and charged with the misuse of 911, falsely reporting an incident and first-degree threatening and interfering with the duties of a police officer. He also faced charges for the possession of an assault weapon as authorities found a shotgun in his kitchen.
"Macdonald, who exhibited signs of being intoxicated admitted to officers that he made the threats and was upset with the government," said Carroccio.
Macdonald expressed his disgust with a National Security Agency program known as PRISM that is said to collect video, photos and e-mails from the servers of nine leading internet companies during the call.
Police have notified Secret Service and Macdonald was released on a $10,000 bond.
