United's record signing Juan Mata will also be missing as he is cup-tied after playing in the competition with Chelsea this season.

However, in a boost for the Reds, Rafael and Danny Welbeck are both fit after injury and could play a part tonight.

Olympiakos have had some bad news, and top scorer Javier Saviola is out with a thigh problem, and will not play United.

However, the Greek champions could be more than a handful for United, as the Athens-based side have been unbeaten so far in their domestic league, climbing to a massive 20 point lead at the top of the table.

Manchester United boss, David Moyes, has been clear that he does not expect today's game to be easy. He insisted, "It will be far from easy. Olympiakos came through a difficult group with Benfica, Paris St-Germain [and Anderlecht]. They have a great home record so it will be a difficult night."

Last week both Arsenal and Manchester City from the English Premier League suffered first leg defeats in their last-16 round ties. Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Bayern Munich, where as City lost 2-0 to Barcelona.

In both of those games the English sides were fighting on level terms until they had players sent off. The red cards in both games proved massive turning points in those games, and United will be hoping for better discipline tonight.
