Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan's 'Super Fight' Slated for April 23
Filipino boxing champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and British boxer Amir Khan will meet in the ring on April 23 for a "super fight," as confirmed by the boxers themselves.
Pacquiao earlier announced that his next bout would be against Australian boxer Jeff Horn. However, he confirmed on Feb. 26 that his management and Khan's were in talks for a fight. "Negotiations between Team Pacquiao and Team Khan have come to terms for the April 23 bout as this is what the fans wanted," said Pacquiao on Twitter.
Similarly, the Briton posted on Twitter, "My team and I have agreed terms with Manny Pacquiao and his team for a super fight."
The 30-year-old Khan and Pacquiao's former sparring partner bagged a silver medal in the lightweight division at the Athens Olympics but has not fought since May 2016, when he fought middleweight Canelo Alvarez and was knocked out in the sixth round. The loss marked the third time he had been knocked out in his entire boxing career.
Currently, Pacquiao holds the World Boxing Organization (WBO) title at the welterweight division so Khan might drop back from middleweight to welterweight to fight the Filipino boxer. Last November, Pacquiao won the title in Las Vegas against American Jessie Vargas. It was a unanimous decision.
While both parties have not yet announced the official location of the upcoming fight, Pacquiao previously said that his next fight would take place in the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao and Khan's confirmation of the "super fight" in April extinguishes Horn's hopes to fight Pacquiao. Pacquiao previously mentioned that Horn was one of his many possible opponents in his next fight, with Horn even releasing a video calling on Pacquiao to make it happen. The Australian school teacher and boxer's dream fight with Pacquiao was slated for April 23 in Brisbane, the same date that Khan and Pacquiao will face each other for the "super fight."
