Manny Pacquiao Faces Chris Algieri Nov. 22, Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight Still Unlikely
WBO welterweight champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao is scheduled to defend his championship title against Chris Algieri on Nov. 22 later this year. The fight itself, however, is not in the interest of boxing fans as they are more eager to see a fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. While the fight between Pacquiao and Algieri is still a few months away, the former's promoter Bob Arum is already making moves to make the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight possible.
Arum has probably said in in multiple interviews that Mayweather isn't willing to fight Pacquiao out of fear that he might lose. The choice to not fight one of the best pound-for-pound fighter isn't surprising as Mayweather has yet to suffer a defeat on his untarnished record. There are even reports that Mayweather is looking to keep his record loss-free when he enters the Boxing Hall of Fame.
"Well you know he doesn't like to fight southpaws and Manny style could give him all kind of problems. He's not afraid of getting hurt, he's afraid to lose," Arum said regarding Mayweather's wavering willingness to fight the Filipino boxer.
Talking about the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight when the Pacman is to fight another opponent in two months may seem like a bad promotion move but it helps to keep fans on their feet and on the lookout for the possibility of a dream match between the two. After all, rumors about the mega bout has been circulating for years now.
While the bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather is already being speculated for a 2015 schedule, the likelihood of it happening is still slim, considering that both fighters have other opponents they can choose to fight.
