Manny Pacquiao Fight News: Arum Says Pacquiao Developed Knockout Power In Right Hand
Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum likes how his most prized ward Manny Pacquiao is doing in training camp. "Pacman" will be facing former WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley for the third and supposedly on April 9th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
It will be the Filipino boxing icon's 66th professional fight, right before he goes on to retire and become a full-fledged politician in his home country of the Philippines. Pacquiao is currently a Senatorial candidate for the 2016 Philippine Elections, which will take place on May 9th.
Throughout his illustrious 20-year career, Pacquiao has been known as a deadly southpaw with great power on his left hand. But through the years that passed under the guidance of famed trainer Freddie Roach, he has begun to develop his right hand as well, making him a better-rounded threat.
However, his right shoulder has proved to be troublesome for Pacquiao. He even claimed that he injured the said shoulder during his May 2nd fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., making it one of his major reasons for losing the said fight.
In a report by Miguel Rivera for Boxingscene, Arum says the right shoulder has been bothersome for Pacquiao since he fought and retired Oscar De La Hoya in December 2008. Pacquiao did have surgery on what was deemed as a torn rotator cuff right after his Mayweather fight, and has been cleared to fight, since.
But according to Arum, Pacquiao has been effectively using his right hand during training, that he actually foresees a better performance from the eight-division world champion. So much so that he says the world may see a knockout from Pacquiao once again.
"Since 2008 when he fought De La Hoya, that shoulder has not been well," Arum said. "So because of that, that right hand has not been very powerful. But now, is throwing that right hand with great determination, and I think he will have the ability to knockout an opponent with not only the left, but now with the right."
Pacquiao's last stoppage victory was a 12th round TKO against Miguel Cotto in 2009.
