Manny Pacquiao News: Boxer Evades Assault from Stranger
Boxing great Manny Pacquiao evaded an assault after his team prevented an unknown attacker from carrying out his plan of laying his hands on Pacquiao.
The boxer and his friends had just gone out of Kabuki restaurant in L.A. last Sunday, April 3, when a white male sprung up from nowhere and started yelling and cursing the boxer.
Pacquiao was already at the door of his Ferrari at the backdoor exit of the restaurant when the incident happened.
According to Edward Lura, one of the boxer's companions at that time, Pacquiao told them not to hurt the attacker. They also did not report the incident to the police.
"I really thought he was going to hit Manny. He came in fast. He almost got to Manny," said Pacquiao's personal assistant, David Sisson according to reports.
Some reports opined that the attack may have links to public perception that Pacquiao is a homophobe.
The Filipino boxer, dubbed as Pacman, grabbed headlines in February this year for his harsh comments during an interview when asked about same-sex marriage, a highly debated topic in his home country. Although the boxer apologized for what he said during the interview, Pacquiao has maintained his stand on the issue.
The boxer is also seeking for a seat at the senate in the upcoming May 9 national elections in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao has just wrapped up his training in L.A. for his fight against Timothy Bradley on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"It's good for me to rest almost one year. I feel happiness, my hunger is like new," he said according to L.A. Times.
Pacquiao's upcoming fight is his third against Bradley. It is also is his first fight after losing to Floyd Mayweather via a controversial unanimous decision in May last year. Incidentally, the Pacquaio-Bradley fight will be the last for Pacquiao as he is set to retire from boxing.
