Manny Pacquiao News: 'Pacman' Attacked by Crazed Fan Outside Restaurant; Arum Says Pacquiao Beats Canelo Like How He Did De La Hoya

Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao almost became a victim of a random assault outside a Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles on Sunday.

According to a report by Carlos Boogs for Boxingscene, The Philippine Star's writer Abac Cordero says a lone assailant, described as a "white male", attacked "Pacman" at the Parking lot of the said establishment, as the latter was about to enter his car.

Cordero adds that Pacquiao did not call the police for assistance, and merely ordered his aides, who were then restraining the unnamed man, to let go.

According to Pacquiao's personal assistant David Sisson, the assailant was close to inflicting some hurt on the Filipino boxer.

"I really thought he was going to hit Manny. He came in fast. He almost got to Manny," Sisson said.

The motive behind the attack has not been made clear, whether or not it is linked to the controversy that Pacquiao is currently facing criticism from various personalities, after making a heated remark about same-sex marriage.

In February, Pacquiao boldly claimed that humans were "worse than animals" for not being able to discern male from female. His comments also led to him being dropped by his major apparel sponsor, Nike.

Pacquiao is currently on his final week of training camp for this April 9th rubber match against Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Top Rank promotions chief Bob Arum believes that Pacquiao could handily beat WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

In another Boxingscene report, the 84-year old veteran promoter is so confident with what he has seen so far in Pacquiao's camp that he believes his most prized fighter would be able to do to Alvarez what he did to Oscar De La Hoya in 2008.

"With Manny, the way is now with both hands working the way they are now, Canelo is going to take the kind of beating from Manny that Oscar took," Arum said. "Trust me."
