Manny Pacquiao News: 'Pacman' Says Gay Comments Were Taken out of Context; Floyd Sr. Says Pacquiao 'Anticpated' Loss to Son
Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao has once again spoke up about the anti same-sex marriage statements he made in February.
In an interview last February, "Pacman" went on to lambast the idea of same-sex marriage, noting how humans were "worse than animals" since the latter has the ability to discern males from females. The said statements drew a lot of flak, particularly from same-sex marriage advocates and the LGBT community.
Apparel sponsor Nike decided to cut ties with the boxer, while he was banned by Los Angeles mall The Grove. In a conference call he held on Friday in the United States (as reported by Boxingscene), Pacquiao once again reiterated his previous explanations about the said statements. But this time around, he says they were taken out of context.
"I was misquoted. If you watch and listen to the whole interview, it's not only one or two minutes," Pacquiao said. "It's five to ten minutes. If you watch the whole interview, you would understand it. The context was lost. I want (people) to watch the whole interview."
Pacquiao will be facing former WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on April 9th, in a rubber match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. After which, he will be retiring after two decades of fighting, to put his focus solely on being a public servant in the Philippines.
He is running for Senator at the 2016 Philippine Elections, which takes place on May 9th.
Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather Sr. believes Pacquiao "anticipated" his own loss to Floyd Jr. during their May 2nd 2015 bout. Pacquiao lost to Mayweather via a wide unanimous decision margin, but claimed that a shoulder injury happened during the fight.
He was then deemed to have torn the rotator cuff on his right shoulder, which he had successful surgery on. In another report by Boxingscene, the elder Mayweather says Pacquiao foresaw that he did not stand a chance against "Money Mayweather".
"Here's a man who knows he ain't got a chance to win, he wants to sit around and tell lies about him hurting his arm," Mayweather Sr. said.
