Man's Facebook Post Goes Viral After Trying Out Girlfriend's XL Clothing
Benjamin Cooper's posts photo of himself wearing girlfriend's clothings to address body shaming sexism
While helping his girlfriend clean out her closet, a man tries on his girlfriend XL-sized clothing and addressed body shaming.
Benjamin Cooper's post became viral after he spoke out about body shaming with girls. He said that upon helping his girlfriend clean her closet, he saw that many of the ones she was throwing away were sized as extra large.
When he tried on the clothes to see if they would fit him, he became upset saying that he and his woman are not extra large people. His post read, "I am not an extra large man, and, more importantly, a woman my size is NOT an extra large woman. This bullshit right here is why we have 8 year olds with eating disorders. This shit right here is why men shout "fucking fat hog!" at even nominally curvy girls on the street. This is why men who think sexism is a "myth" perpetuated by liberal pussies are Full. Of. Shit."
His post reached more than 260,000 shares as well as plenty of positive comments. Cooper was also able to speak to Today about his post. He said that his objective was to emphasize how labels affect people in negative ways.
However, his post also received several criticism from commenters, explaining that clothing sizes have changed to address the obesity rates in the United States. With that, Cooper explained that he did not mean to put focus on the sizes. Instead, he wanted to show the body shaming sexism in male and female clothing.
He also said that the words "extra" or "plus" also have a negative connotation when used for clothing. He said, "Sizes with the word extra in them are always going to leave someone feeling like they're on the wrong end of the spectrum. It doesn't matter if it's extra-large or extra-small. I think they're both terrible."
