'Marco Polo' Season 2 Release Date: Netflix Original Series to Return in Summer 2016
"Marco Polo" season 2 may still be in production right now, but it will be released in May or June this year, if the latest rumors are to be believed.
On Dec. 26, 2015, Netflix released "Marco Polo: One Hundred Eyes" for streaming, and at the same time revealed that "Marco Polo" season 2 will be out by summer 2016. However, new rumors have pointed to a more specific date range for the release of the original series' next installment, according to iDigital Times.
Last month, Reddit user filmphotoguy posted a message saying the crew is still shooting "Marco Polo" season 2 in Malaysia. Citing insiders as his source, he also gave an estimate on the time it takes to film and edit the series, the report details.
"They are still shooting season 2 in Malaysia. It takes 6-8 months to film and a few months to finish editing," Reddit user filmphotoguy said a month ago. "I believe they are probably more than halfway done shooting … I wouldn't expect to see anything until at least end of winter or early spring."
Based on filmphotoguy's information, there are still four more months left before the crew finishes filming the series. Add to that two months for editing, and that translates to either a May or June release for "Marco Polo" season 2.
In addition, the Netflix insider explained that they are taking more time to shoot season 2 because the story requires a lot of remote locations in Malaysia. He also said they had to hire a lot of extras for the scenes, the report relays.
Meanwhile, it was earlier announced that Michelle Yeoh will be part of the cast for the second season of the series. She will join Tom Wu, Benedict Wong, Lorenzo Richelmy, Joan Chen, Clauida Kim, Zhu Zhu, and other stars in the show, UPI reports.
"Marco Polo" season 1 was released in December 2014, and season 2 is expected to come out a year and a half after that. More details on the Netflix original series are expected to surface in the next few months.
