Mariah Carey Furious Over Nicki Minaj's 'American Idol' Gig?

Mariah Carey is reportedly furious over reports that Nicki Minaj is joining her on the "American Idol" judges' panel in season 12.

The 42-year-old legendary singer allegedly hung up the phone in a rage after she was told that Minaj, a New York-based rapper, was a leading candidate, according to a new report.

On Monday it was reported that Minaj, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj, would become an "Idol" judge. The news allegedly upset Carey because she was told that she would be the only woman on the judge's panel, according to TMZ.com.

"I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening," a source reportedly told Us Magazine. Another source said that Minaj is "100 percent confirmed to judge 'American Idol.'"

The Fox network, which airs "Idol," has not yet confirmed Minaj's rumored new gig. Some critics believe that there may be a conflict of interest when finalizing the alleged deal because the 29-year-old rapper currently has an endorsement deal with Pepsi and "Idol" is sponsored by Coke.

Veteran judge Randy Jackson will likely return joining the female duo on the "Idol" panel, although this has not yet been confirmed.

In July, Carey confirmed that she would be replacing Jennifer Lopez as a judge for the upcoming season, and at that time appeared to be "excited" about her new gig.

"I am so excited to be joining 'American Idol,' this kind of all just happened really quickly," Carey said after being placed on speaker phone during a meeting involving the Television Critics Association, according to ABC News.

As fans await official confirmation from Minaj as to whether or not she will be joining "Idol," other famous names circulating in the rumor mill as potential judges include Keith Urban, Enrique Iglesias, Pharrell Williams and Nick Jonas.
