'Marian' Casting News: Margot Robbie Headlines Sony's Robin Hood Film

Australian actress Margot Robbie is confirmed to star in a movie based on Robin Hood's maiden, Marian.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Suicide Squad" actress will be portraying the titular role of "Marian," the maiden of Robin Hood folklore. The upcoming movie unfolds after the demise of Robin Hood, her lover who dies as a result of a conspiracy to conquer England.

"Marian" will be produced by Donald De Line, Amy Pascal and Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment, with a script from Pete Barry. Rock Shaink will also be producing the film through Romark Entertaintment.

The upcoming movie starring Robbie is one of several Robin Hood-related projects that are lined up for development and release in the future. Lionsgate is working on an origin story starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan, and is set to premiere in March 2018. A futuristic take in Robin Hood's story will also begin shooting later this year.

On TV, a modern-day series titled "A Burglar's Guide to the City" is also being developed by Alex Kurtzman and Justin Lin for CBS.

For Robbie, "Marian" is one of several film projects she is set to work on. Currently, she is filming the movie "I, Tonya," a biopic about disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding. She will also be working on "Gotham City Sirens," an all-female DC villain movie that will further explore her "Suicide Squad" character Harley Quinn.

The actress is also attached to work on two projects based on classic characters from famous children's books. She will appear in "Peter Rabbit," a live-action/CGI hybrid film based on Beatrix Potter's characters. She is also reported to appear in an untitled A.A. Milne project about Winnie the Pooh.

"Marian" has no official release date yet.
