Marines 'Girly' Hats Proposal Causes Stir in Corps, 'Looks Too French' Critics Say

A new plan to change Marine Corps' uniform, specifically their hats, has led to some to exclaim that the hats are too "girly" and should not be implemented.

The new style of hats are referred to as the "Dan Daly" hat in honor of a Long Island sergeant who earned the Medal of Honor during World War I, according to a report in the New York Post.

The marine's current hat has been a staple of the Corps since 1922 and critics of the new hat have insisted that it is too feminine and also looks like a "porters cap." There are also concerns that the new hats will be confused with other nations.

"The Dan Daly cap looks too French, and the last people we want to associate our Marines with would be the French military. Wide brim for me," wrote one commentator on the Marine Times website.

The new hats smaller, thinner and rounder are designed to be unisex that can be worn by both male and female service members.

"It looks good on the female noted, It would be good to see a side shot, I have a word for the men going to the so called Dan Daly look: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" said another.

The final decision will be left to Marine Corp Commandant Gen. James Amos and officials have until the end of this week to give the proposed the go-ahead.

However, there is not very much support of the new hat after an informal survey of the Marine uniform advisory board found that "members did not like the appearance of the Dan Daly cap on the male Marine."

"We don't even have enough funding to buy bullets and the DOD is pushing to spend $8 million on covers that look like women's hats," a senior Marine told The New York Post.
