'Mario Kart 8' Teases A New Wii U GamePad? Nintendo Life Clears Up Rumors

A new commercial featuring the "Mario Kart 8" has appeared on Nintendo's official YouTube account and gamers are wondering if what was being shown in the commercial was the makings of a new Wii U GamePad.

The commercial seemed a bit sketchy though, as Nintendo blurred out the details, but that just amped up fans even more, wondering if this was a new Wii U GamePad in the works. Many also noted that the video was labeled as "European Version" despite being up on the Nintendo Japan YouTube account.

However, the feeling of excitement and hopefulness was stopped almost immediately as Nintendo Life reported that the commercial was actually pretty old -- around six to seven months old to be more precise.

The video showed a GamePad that was thinner than usual and blurred out, which the writers attributed to most likely wonky effects and mediocre work, as the "European Version" commercial was actually a retread of the same commercial that was released back in May in Europe.

Mainstream websites have been reporting news about a new GamePad so Nintendo Life even posted the original video and the second commercial video that also aired in Europe to make things clear and nip the rumors in the bud that no, there is not a new GamePad in the works.

Multiple GamePads are not supported in the Wii U and back in March, Shigeru Miyamoto, a designer and producer from Nintendo, stated that the company was looking into how to develop the kind of games that supported two GamePads or more.

Miyamoto however added that the time was not yet right and Nintendo had yet to decide when to bring in a two-GamePad support.

Numerous sites have reached out to Nintendo to clarify the Wii U GamePad rumors, but the company has yet to comment on the matter.
